MDFR aviation emergency drill at MIA

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) in conjunction with the Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) and other local and federal emergency response agencies, will conduct a full-scale aviation emergency drill at Miami International Airport (MIA) at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020.

Mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) once every three years, the Triennial Airport Emergency Exercise simulates a live emergency scenario on MIA’s airfield in order to test and evaluate the effectiveness of MIA’s emergency plan and its ability to respond in the event of a real-life airfield emergency.

Student volunteers from Miami-Dade County high schools will assist the participating local and federal emergency response agencies in this major incident exercise, posing as passengers on an airplane involved in an emergency.

Media Note: Interviews will be available in English and Spanish.

Please confirm attendance by email along with the names of crew members who will be attending the MDFR 2020 Medal Day Ceremony to [email protected]

For more information, please contact MDFR’s Media and Public Relations Bureau at 305-814-8051.
