Emergency Vehicle Zones (Fire Lanes)

The department provides a means for appropriate venues to provide uniform, clear marking of parking zones that enable emergency vehicles immediate and clear access to the structures. Once an authorized emergency vehicle zone is established and the local police department is notified, vehicles parking in these zones can be issued parking citations. Emergency vehicle zones are provided at shopping centers, shopping malls, parking lots and parking garages.

The building owner must complete an Application for Creation of an Emergency Vehicle Zone. Or, contact the Miami-Dade Fire Engineering Bureau at 786-315-2771 to request an application. Attached to the completed application must be a check or money order for $190.00 and a site plan (including the legal description of the property). The completed application package should be mailed to:

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue
Fire Engineering & Water Supply Bureau
11805 SW 26th Street
Miami, FL 33175

Once the complete application package and check are received, an inspector will visit the property and determine the suitability of the site for an emergency vehicle zone, and where the lane striping and signs need to be placed. The owner will be advised of where to apply the striping and place signs.

Once the owner has completed the striping and sign placement, the inspector will return to approve the placement. Upon approval, the inspector will enter the results into the Fire Prevention database, notifying the Fire Prevention Division office of a new Emergency Vehicle Zone. The Fire Prevention Division maintains a current list of all approved zones, and acts as a liaison with the various police departments.

For questions about establishing an Emergency Vehicle Zone, please contact the Fire Engineering & Water Supply Bureau at 786-315-2771.
