Employee Wellness Teams (EWT)

During any disaster or emergency, residents of our community are impacted including County employees. It is these same employees who we are asking to act as DAE to serve the needs of our community and other residents. The County and the DAE Program recognize the effect this may have on personnel assigned to support DAE Program operations and; therefore, have made it a priority to provide a service directly to them. 

The mission of Employee Wellness Teams (EWT) is to ensure the general well-being of all County employees including deployed DAE personnel. Employees from the ISD Risk Management and professional counselors from various departments will be tasked to monitor the physical safety and mental well-being of DAE personnel. Risk Management employees will check to make sure work sites are safe; work practices are performed properly and appropriately (i.e. heavy lifting) and ensure employees’ well-being (i.e. taking regular breaks, properly hydrating, etc.). Counselors trained in critical incident stress debriefing techniques will distribute resource booklets, provide counseling services ranging from general information to continued mental health care referral and be available to talk about any issues or problems that the DAE are facing. 

The number of teams activated and the size of service areas will depend on the situation and extent of need. This is light to moderate labor which usually takes place outdoors and requires the operation of a motor vehicle.
