Welcome to Our November Issue!
Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue's (MDFR) Hotlines is a monthly publication that promotes departmental services, initiatives and accomplishments. Originally launched in July 2009 as a quarterly electronic newsletter, Hotlines has evolved into a more user friendly format. Hotlines is not only distributed to MDFR employees, it's also posted on our public website, http://www.miamidade.gov/mdfr so that it can be accessed by members of the community we serve.

Thanks Giving Turkey Giveaway Giving Back to the Community
MDFR firefighters from Sweetwater and Fontainebleau say Happy Thanksgiving not in words but in action. They collectively raised more than $1,700 to make sure the less fortunate families of the district will have turkey meals on November 25th. More than 250 residents from Sweetwater and Fontainebleau were present at the giveaway which was held at the City of Sweetwater's Jose Mas Canosa Youth Center. The firefighters, Commissioner for District 12, Jose "Pepe" Diaz, and various other City officials were on hand ready to assist and distribute the turkeys to pre-selected residents. >>
Toy Drive to Help Disadvantaged Children
MDFR is collecting new unwrapped toys at all fire stations for disadvantaged children. These families are selected by churches, schools, community centers, and firefighters who respond to homes of needy families on emergency calls.>>
Veterans' Special Honor Flight
World War II veterans traveled to Washington D.C. on a special Honor Flight.  Firefighters from all around South Florida, including eight from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, served as guardians for the elderly war heroes. >>
Opa-Locka Station Receives Grant
MDFR's Opa-Locka Station 26 receives a grant check in the amount of $5,000 from the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company who partnered with the Riemer Insurance Group.  The money was used to buy equipment for the station >>
Grand Opening Fire Station #10
Station 10 celebrated its grand opening on November 23rd, a day before Thanksgiving. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue thanks the many individuals who contributed to the building of the beautiful structure located in the City of Sunny Isles Beach. We also recognize the men and women who will serve Station 10 and we support them in their 24/7 mission to protect the lives of thousands of residents and visitors of Sunny Isles Beach and its surrounding communities. >>
Holiday Cooking Safety Tips
Since many of our county residents will be cooking during the traditional holiday meals, MDFR wants to remind everyone of certain precautions when preparing holiday meals. Specially, when using a turkey fryer or a roasting box, known in Spanish as Caja China.  >>
MDFR Station 52 Receives a 2000 Gallon Tanker/Pumper
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) Station 52 recently received its newest apparatus, a 2000 gallon tanker/pumper. This latest edition to the MDFR fleet replaces the aging tanker/pumper currently housed at the station. The new truck is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to facilitate the continued service and protection of the residents of South Miami Heights and its surrounding neighbors. This four-person unit will continue to provide fire and rescue services while additionally assisting areas without fire hydrants with its 2000 gallon water tank capacity.

Dangers of Burglar Bars
More than 4,000 Americans die each year in fires, and approximately 20,000 are injured. Security bars may help keep your family safe from intruders, but they can also trap you in a deadly fire! Miami-Dade Fire Rescue encourages you to help reduce the number of fire injuries and deaths associated with security bars on windows and doors preventing fire escape. Watch video Windows Media Logo
