(MIAMI, May 3, 2013) – Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) participated in this year’s annual “Take Your Daughter and Sons to Work Day”. Children between the ages of 8-18 were invited to take part in familiarizing themselves with their parent’s workplace.
Activities for the day included a tour of the Emergency Operations Center, a presentation about the MDFR Venom Response Team, a tour of the new state-of-the-art Communications Center, and an Ocean Rescue presentation. Children took part in a mock Firefighter Academy where they toured a station, tried out bunker gear, and learned how to use a fire hose. They also participated in a mock firefighting exercise where they had to locate the victim to be rescued using a thermal imaging camera. It is estimated that almost 100 children enjoyed the very special day’s activities.
