MDFR and insurance companies join forces to fight fraud

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) in a partnership with Mercury Insurance, Rimkus Consulting Group Inc., and MetLife’s Automobile & Home Insurance Special Investigation Unit will be conducting a live vehicle fire demonstration on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 3 p.m. at MDFR’s Training Center, 9300 NW 41st Street, Doral, Florida.
This one-day hands-on seminar will provide fire, police, and insurance personnel with an understanding of the science of fire behavior and burn patterns. This training will help investigators determine if a fire was caused intentionally.  Four vehicles have been donated by the participating insurance companies to utilize in the live fire demonstrations.

“Our goal through this training demonstration is to make not only our firefighters, but the insurance industry safer when responding to vehicles fires that may involve fraud,” said MDFR’s Fire Chief, William W. Bryson.

“Fighting fraud in this state by educating ourselves and striving to attain the highest investigative standards is a priority,” added Captain Omar A. Torres who heads the department’s Fire Investigations Bureau.
