For many homebuyers, foreclosed or REO (real estate owned) homes can offer an excellent opportunity to make homeownership a dream come true. Many federal, local and private sector programs are available to help prospective buyers navigate the path to their new home.

Buying a foreclosed property can be a complicated, but ultimately rewarding process in terms of getting more home for your purchasing power, stabilizing neighborhoods, and revitalizing communities. Learn the ins and outs of being an informed buyer as well as protecting your rights before you buy.

The government is now offering financial incentives that can be applied towards the purchase of a foreclosed home. First-time homebuyers get up to $8,000. Get up to $6,500 for buying a replacement home.

Fannie Mae is introducing the Deed-for-Lease Program (D4L), a program designed to minimize family displacement, deterioration of neighborhoods caused by vandalism and theft to vacant homes, and the effect these have on families, communities and home price stabilization.

Buyers of foreclosed properties in unincorporated Miami-Dade County now have  protection against unexpected repairs or other deficiencies of the property under an ordinance adopted by the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners (BCC) on December 2, 2008.

The Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) may be moving to a neighborhood near you. If you are eligible to purchase a foreclosed home, the County may have the assistance you need.
