Commissioner Monestime urges Trump administration to extend visas for International Students

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime will be sponsoring a resolution urging the Trump administration to reverse its recent decision requiring foreign students who are pursuing degrees in the United States to leave the country or risk deportation if their universities switch to online-only courses.

New County pilot program will help low-income seniors with their rent

Low-income Miami-Dade senior citizens struggling with the high cost of housing may benefit from a new County pilot program to help them with their rent.

Board of County Commissioners approve Commissioner Monestime's legislation calling for demographic report on COVID-19 cases

The Miami-Dade County Commission on May 5 approved legislation sponsored by Commissioner Jean Monestime that calls for the County administration to prepare a report analyzing the breakdown of COVID-19 infections, hospitalizations and deaths by race and other demographic factors in Miami-Dade County.

Covid-19 walk-up testing site opens in North Miami

A new Covid-19 walk-up testing site has opened in North Miami Beach. While most testing sites in the county are drive-through, the new site at Holy Family Catholic Church, 14500 NE 11th Ave., will be available for walk-ups by appointment only. The testing is available to individuals of any age, with or without symptoms, who believe they may have been in contact with someone who tested positive for covid-19.

New County pilot program will help low-income seniors with their rent

The program would provide direct monthly payments of $100 a month to the landlords of eligible seniors for one year, which may be renewed for an additional 12 months subject to continued eligibility and availability of funds.
