Play Ball! Work Begins on Marlins Stadium  

Marlins logoThe old Orange Bowl site in Little Havana is now being prepared to make way for a new stadium for the Marlins. The project will not only keep the team in South Florida, but also promises to create jobs and spur economic growth in one of Miami's oldest neighborhoods. Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami and the Marlins will join together for a groundbreaking ceremony on July 18.

New Projects Boost South Florida's Building Industry  

County manager George M. Burgess Thanks to a large roster of capital projects, the County is helping to get local people working and dollars circulating. "For the building trades and professions, public sector projects translate into contracting opportunities," said County Manager George M. Burgess. "We are committed to moving forward as quickly as possible on funded projects." Work now underway includes significant upgrades to the County's water/sewer system, ongoing work at the airport and seaport along with a long list of neighborhood projects-funded either wholly, or in part, by the Building Better Communities Bond Program." Economic Stimulus Plan Extended and Expanded  

Recovery logo In an effort to get work out on the street as quickly as possible, Miami-Dade County has extended and expanded its Economic Stimulus Plan which fast-tracks the process of awarding contracts for County capital projects. This includes those funded by federal dollars under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)

Just In Time For Summer...  

Rated one of the top ten zoos in the U.S, Metrozoo houses more than 1,200 animals in natural habitats.Thanks to Miami-Dade's Building Better Communities Bond Program, work has been completed or is underway at more than 80 recreational locations throughout the County. This summer, residents of all ages are enjoying improved recreational facilities including new playgrounds, upgraded sports fields  and expanded exhibits Miami Metrozoo.

Adopt-a-Tree Program DERM's popular Adopt-a-Tree program is back! Residents adopted more than 2,300 trees on June 6. The next event is scheduled for Sunday, July 19.

Creating New Partnerships
With Building Industry
 

More than 700 members of the building professions and trades attended Miami-Dade County's 2nd Industry Forum for architects, engineers and contractors.  The Office of Capital Improvements (OCI) hosted the half-day meeting at the Port of Miami as part of the County's ongoing efforts to create stronger ties with the building industry.

 


Historic Hampton House  

County Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson and Dr. Enid Pinkney, president of the Historic Hampton House Community Trust, Inc. joined with other community leaders to unveil plans for the renovation of the historic 1950s era motel.

Plans to restore the Historic Hampton House were unveiled at a launch ceremony on April 9, 2009. Thanks to a $4.7 million allocation from the Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond Program work is now underway on the historic hotel which will serve as community center in the Brownsville area.
