You don't have to look far to see construction underway in Miami-Dade County. Projects range from neighborhood improvements-sidewalk repairs, new drainage and street resurfacing-to larger, more complex construction with upgrades to dozens of parks, public safety and healthcare facilities. No doubt, these projects have caused you inconvenience, but they are also a sign that your tax dollars are at work. 


GOB Funding Supports Investment in Urban Core

The Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond  Program (GOB) is paving the way for important investment in Miami-Dade infrastructure that will shape the community for generations to come. A number of large projects are still in the final approval stages and are being implemented in conjunction with other governmental entities including the City of Miami. GOB is contributing to part of the cost of these new facilitiesGeorge M. Burgess, County Manager that will provide new cultural, sports and economic opportunities in South Florida.

New Leadership for Office of Capital Improvements

The Office of Capital Improvements (OCI) has new leadership. Mayor Carlos Alvarez has appointed Johnny Martinez to head the office that is responsible for guiding the County's Capital Projects including the $2.9 billion Building Better Communities Bond Program. 


Allapattah Village Project Moves Forward  

Allapattah Village The first step in building the new Allapattah Village was taken on Friday, January 11, 2008 when Berg Demolition grapples tore down the Allapattah YMCA.  The demolition marked the beginning of the Allapattah Village, which is a joint effort between the YMCA of Greater Miami, the Carlisle Development Group and the Biscayne Housing Group. The GOB is contributing $2.5 million in funding towards this project.


GOB Dollars support Nonprofit Organizations  

Thirty-seven nonprofit organizations that provide important community services to residents throughout our community have been awarded $30 million in GOB grant monies. The County is now in the process of formalizing grant agreements with the following non-profit organizations:


Citizens' Advisory Committee Welcomes New Members  

The Building Better Communities Citizens' Advisory Committee (CAC) welcomed two new members at its March 7 meeting.  Michael B. Smith, owner of Project Development and Construction Company, and Jacqueline Menendez, Vice President of Communications at the University of Miami, were appointed to the 21-member committee.


Historic Preservation Fund  

GOB Project Preserving Our Heritage

A Historic Preservation Fund totaling $10 million will provide matching monies for eligible projects through grants to municipalities, organizations and individual property owners in the County for the purpose of rehabilitating historic sites and structures.  Please click here in order to be able to view and download the package.  The deadline for submittals has been extended to August 15, 2008.
