REPORT: Commissioner Heyman initiated the discussion regarding the foregoing citizen's presentation by inviting the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) Director to provide to provide a brief report on the impact of the DROP Program on service delivery. Mr. Steve Rothlein, Assistant Director, Investigative Services, appeared before the Committee and noted numerous MDPD employees retired; however, 44 civilians and 119 sworn police officers were recently hired. He also noted a significant number of new recruits had graduated from the police academy, all command staff positions were currently filled, and management was comfortable that the staffing would remain at sufficient levels after the DROP.
