REPORT: | Chairperson Seijas announced that the foregoing proposed resolution was open for public participation. Mr. Rene Ospinal, 9350 Fontainebleau Boulevard, appeared before the Committee and urged the Board to support the foregoing proposed resolution. There being no other person to appear, the public hearing was closed. The Committee proceeded to vote on the foregoing resolution as presented. | ||||||

TITLE RESOLUTION CODESIGNATING SW 127TH AVENUE FROM SW 88TH STREET TO SW 104TH STREET AS ELMER J. FAUCETT AVENUE BODY WHEREAS, this Board has conducted a public hearing to consider codesignating SW 127th Avenue from SW 88th Street to SW 104th Street as Elmer J. Faucett Avenue; and WHEREAS, Elmer J. Faucett was born in Savona, New York on March 15, 1891; and WHEREAS, after a short stint in the U.S. Army, where he learned engine mechanics, Elmer J. Faucett went to work at the Curtiss Airplane and Motor Company in Hammondsport, New York; and WHEREAS, in 1923 Elmer J. Faucett collected $10,000 in prize money for crossing the Andes on a flight from Iquitos, Peru to Lima on a Curtiss Oriole airplane, and collected enough prize money to fulfill his life dream of purchasing his own airplane; and WHEREAS, in 1928 Elmer J. Faucett and a group of Peruvian investors got together and financed Elmer J. Faucett with 100,000 soles to establish the Faucett Aviation Company; and WHEREAS, Mr. Faucett built 27 airplanes, the Stinson/Faucet "Chicos" over a 12 year period as the airline company grew with service to Arequipa, Yungay, Talara and Tacna; and WHEREAS, in 1968 Faucett Airlines purchased a fleet of Boeing 727s and commenced international service from Lima to Miami with three flights weekly; and WHEREAS, a group of former employees from the Faucett Airlines offices in Miami have petitioned the County for the codesignation of a street in honor of Elmer J. Faucett; and WHEREAS, this Board would like to honor the memory of Elmer J. Faucett with this codesignation; and WHEREAS, this proposed codesignation is located in County Commission District 10, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: Section 1. This Board approves the codesignation of SW 127th Avenue from SW 88th Street to SW 104th Street as Elmer J. Faucett Avenue. Section 2. The Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the United States Postal Authority, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works Department and Land Development Division of the Public Works Department, the Police Department, and the Fire Department. |
