TITLE
RESOLUTION CODESIGNATING NW 120TH AVENUE FROM NW 2ND STREET TO NW 6TH STREET AS RENE ROBAYNA AVENUE

BODY
WHEREAS, this Board has conducted a public hearing to consider codesignating NW 120th Avenue from NW 2nd Street to NW 6th Street as Rene Robayna Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Rene Robayna was born on September 27, 1962 in Alquizar, Cuba, and at the age of 17, together with his family, he immigrated to the United States during the Mariel Boat Lift; and
WHEREAS, Rene Robayna, with a great desire to succeed, completed high school at Miami Senior High and graduated from Miami-Dade Community College with an Associates Degree in 1982; and
WHEREAS, Rene Robayna, in 1983, founded his own drywall company, Finest Drywall, Inc., which continues to operate today as a multimillion dollar corporation; and
WHEREAS, Rene Robayna, in 1994, began building custom homes, in what he called micro-communities, some of which are Capistrano Homes, San Marco Estates and Rodeo Estates. His success as a builder was a product of his philosophy that satisfied homeowners would become friends for life; and
WHEREAS, Rene Robayna, apart from his success in business, was foremost a devout Catholic, a member/contributor of Movimiento Familiar Cristiano headed by Father Angel Villaronga. He served in Camino retreats for couples to be married, was a member of the Emmaus Movement and a faithful contributor to the League Against Cancer; and
WHEREAS, Rene Robayna, after a 17-year battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, passed away on December 6, 2003. He is survived by his three sons Raul, Eduardo, and Rene and wife Elizabeth; and
WHEREAS, this Board would like to honor the memory of Rene Robayna with this codesignation; and
WHEREAS, this proposed codesignation is located in County Commission District 12,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that:
Section 1. This Board approves the codesignation of NW 120th Avenue from NW 2nd Street to NW 6th Street as Rene Robayna Avenue.
Section 2. The Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the United States Postal Authority, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works Department and Land Development Division of the Public Works Department, the Police Department, and the Fire Department.
