TITLE
RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE COUNTY MANAGER TO DEVELOP AND PRESENT TO THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS A PLAN FOR THE RELOCATION, RETRAINING AND/OR REEMPLOYMENT OF EMPLOYEES WHO MAY BE DISPLACED BY THE ADOPTION OF AUTOMATED GARBAGE PICKUP IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY

BODY
WHEREAS, the Department of Solid Waste Management is attempting to implement automated garbage pickup for many households within its service area; and
WHEREAS, automated garbage collection requires fewer employees and thereby may displace some current County employees from their existing positions; and
WHEREAS, this Board of County Commissioners is concerned with the well being of these employees and is concerned for a smooth transition for these displaced employees,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board of County Commissioners hereby directs the County Manager to prepare and present to this Board of County Commissioners a plan to deal with employees who may be displaced as a result of the transition to automated garbage pickup. This plan shall include absorption of employees to other positions within the Solid Waste Department, retraining and education for employees to be prepared for other jobs outside of the Solid Waste Department, coordination with the “pipeline” within MiamiDade County to provide access to other positions within Miami-Dade County, training and education to assist in smooth transitions to employment outside of the County and early incentive retirement packages that may be made available to long term employees. This report shall be prepared and provided to this Board of County Commissioners within 45 days.
