TITLE
RESOLUTION URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO PROVIDE SPECIAL RISK RETIREMENT BENEFITS THROUGH THE FLORIDA RETIREMENT SYSTEM TO PUBLIC EMPLOYEES WORKING AS EMERGENCY DISPATCHERS

BODY
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 1354 by Senator Dave Aronberg and House Bill 9 by Representative Julio Robaina have been filed for the 2006 regular session of the Florida Legislature; and
WHEREAS, these bills provide special risk retirement benefits to public employees working as emergency dispatchers at law enforcement agencies and fire departments; and
WHEREAS, emergency dispatchers play an important role in public safety and homeland security, and are deserving of special risk benefits,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Urges the Florida Legislature to provide special risk retirement benefits to public employees working as law enforcement and fire department emergency dispatchers.
Section 2. Expresses it support for S.B. 1354 and H.B. 9 and urges their passage.
Section 3.. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to Senator Dave Aronberg, Representative Julio Robaina, and the Chair and remaining members of the Miami-Dade County State Legislative Delegation.
Section 4. Directs the County's state lobbyists to advocate for the passage of the legislation set forth in Section 1 and 2 above, and directs the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs to include this item in the 2006 State Legislative Package.
