TITLE
RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE COUNTY MANAGER TO STUDY THE WAGE RATES OF COUNTY CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS AND TO NEGOTIATE WITH SUCH OFFICERS' COLLECTIVE BARGAINING REPRESENTATIVE TO ENSURE THAT SUCH WAGES ARE SUFFICIENT TO ATTRACT AND RETAIN QUALIFIED PERSONNEL

BODY
WHEREAS, the County's correctional officers are required to provide critical services to the citizens of this County in a dangerous environment; and
WHEREAS, the Board wishes to ensure that the County attracts and retains the most qualified correctional officers it reasonably can; and
WHEREAS, the Board finds that training correctional officers requires the expenditure of considerable County resources; and
WHEREAS, trained and experienced correctional officers have in the past been enticed to leave for better paying positions in the County and elsewhere; and
WHEREAS, the Board recognizes that any change in the wage rates of correctional officers must be negotiated with the officers' collective bargaining representative,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that:
Section 1. The Board requests the County Manager to study the wage rates of the County's correctional officers and to determine a wage rate sufficient to attract and retain qualified officers.
Section 2. The Board requests the Manager or his representatives to negotiate the terms of any necessary change in the wage rates of correctional officers with the officers' collective bargaining representative.
