REPORT: | Assistant County Attorney Daron Fitch read the foregoing proposed resolution into the record. Chairwoman Sosa noted that education would deter children from using violent video games. Chairwoman Sosa also stressed that ID’s should be implemented to deny under-aged children access to violent video games. | ||||||

TITLE RESOLUTION URGING STORES AND OTHER ESTABLISHMENTS NOT TO SELL, RENT, OR MAKE AVAILABLE GRAPHICALLY VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES TO MINORS BODY WHEREAS, graphically violent video games may encourage users of the game, particularly children, to engage in criminal or hateful activity and make children suffer deleterious effects on their psychological well-being; and WHEREAS, the objectives that these games promote are in conflict with the objectives of law enforcement and make their jobs more difficult; and WHEREAS, as a result of minors viewing these games and engaging in criminal or hateful activity, Miami-Dade County will be required to provide more monies in the area of enforcement and abatement measures; and WHEREAS, these video games' objectives are incompatible with the moral fabric of the community, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, this Board urges stores and other establishments not to sell, rent, or make available graphically violent video games to minors. Furthermore, the Board of County Commissioners encourages these establishments to require photo identification in order to insure that only individuals eighteen years of age or older purchase or rent said games. |
