Intergov., Recreation & Cultural Affairs Cmte. 9/20/2006 1F1 Forwarded to BCC with a favorable recommendation P
REPORT: The foregoing proposed resolution was read into the record by Assistant County Attorney Monica Maldonado. Chairwoman Heyman opened the public hearing and called for persons wishing to be heard on this matter. 1. Mr. Kenneth Kilpatrick, 2442 NE 188 Street, Miami, Florida, on behalf of the Brownsville Coalition for implementation of the Brownsville Neighborhood Charrette, appeared before the Committee in support of naming the Community Center after Mr. Everett Stewart. Hearing no other persons wishing to appear on this matter, the public hearing was closed. Commissioner Edmonson noted she also supported the naming of the community center within the Jefferson Reaves Park after Mr. Stewart since he was instrumental in implementing the Brownsville Neighborhood Civic Association and in building the Civic Center; in increasing its membership throughout the years; in obtaining a new basketball court at the center, and in forming a partnership with the Brownsville community’s Barnett Bank so that community members could conduct their banking. There being no further discussion or comments, the Committee proceeded to vote on this resolution.
