TITLE
RESOLUTION URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO PASS LEGISLATION PROVIDING A SALES TAX REBATE OR SIMILAR BENEFIT RELATED TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF A PUBLICLY-OWNED STADIUM FOR A MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL FRANCHISE IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY

BODY
WHEREAS, during the 2005 state legislative session, the Florida House of Representatives passed HB 173, which included a sales tax rebate for the construction of a publicly-owned stadium for a Major League Baseball franchise in Miami-Dade County, but the session ended before the Florida Senate could pass the bill; and
WHEREAS, during the 2006 state legislative session, the Florida Senate passed HB 615, which included a sales tax rebate for the construction of such a stadium, but the session ended before the Florida House of Representatives could pass the bill; and
WHEREAS, over the past two years both the House and Senate have now passed a sales tax rebate for the construction of such a stadium in Miami-Dade County, just not in the same year,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Urges the Florida Legislature to pass legislation providing a sales tax rebate or similar benefit for the construction of a publicly-owned stadium for a Major League Baseball Franchise in Miami-Dade County.
Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the Governor, Senate President, House Speaker, and the Chair and Members of the Miami-Dade County State Legislative Delegation.
Section 3. Directs the County's state lobbyists to advocate for the passage of the legislation set forth in Section 1 above, and directs the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs to include this item in the 2007 State Legislative Package.
