TITLE
RESOLUTION DECLARING THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 22-28, OF THE YEAR 2007 AND EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER, AS DOMINICAN HERITAGE AND CULTURAL WEEK

BODY
WHEREAS, Dominican-Americans have played an integral role in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Dominican-Americans are among the largest foreign-born groups of population in Miami-Dade County, thereby contributing to the cultural diversity and richness of the County; and
WHEREAS, the month of February is of particular historical relevance to the immigrants from the Dominican Republic because the Dominican Republic became a republic on February 27, 1844; and
WHEREAS, the Board desires to declare the week of February 22-28, of the year 2007 and every year thereafter, as Dominican Heritage and Culture Week,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board declares the week of February 22 - 28, of the year 2007 and every year thereafter, as Dominican Heritage and Culture Week in order to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of Dominican-Americans, encourage their assimilation, and promote understanding and community relations among the different segments of our society.
