REPORT: | Assistant County Attorney Benitez read the foregoing resolution into the record. It was moved by Commissioner Diaz that this proposed resolution be forwarded with a favorable recommendation. This motion was seconded by Commissioner Souto. Chairman Martinez suggested that the County Commission consider increasing the budget for the warrant bureau. He noted that this resolution called for funding, not a study. Hearing no other questions or comments, the Committee proceeded to vote. | ||||||

TITLE RESOLUTION URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE AND THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMISSIONER TO DEVELOP AND FUND AN OUTREACH AND PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN REGARDING UNSOLVED VIOLENT CRIMES AND UNSOLVED CRIMINAL DRUG CASES BODY WHEREAS, many communities across our State are negatively impacted by the increase in violent crimes and illegal drugs in their neighborhoods; and WHEREAS, increased State efforts are necessary, to seek the public's assistance to apprehend individuals wanted by law enforcement agencies for violent crimes and drug offenses; and WHEREAS, this Board considers a statewide outreach and public awareness campaign focused on capturing wanted violent criminals and closing unsolved criminal drug cases worth funding and implementing in an effort to decrease the incidences of violence and drug activity and improve the safety of Floridians, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board: Section 1. Urges the Florida Legislature and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement ("FDLE") Commissioner to fund and implement an outreach and public awareness campaign to seek the public's assistance to apprehend violent offenders and close unsolved criminal drug cases. Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the Governor, Senate President, House Speaker, Chair and members of the Miami-Dade County State Legislative Delegation and the FDLE Commissioner. Section 3. Directs the County's state lobbyists to advocate for the passage of the legislation set forth in Section 1 above, and directs the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs to include this item in the 2007 State Legislative Package. |
