REPORT: | Assistant County Attorney Gerald Sanchez read the foregoing proposed resolution into the record. After he relinquished the chair to Vice Chairwoman Jordan, Chairman Rolle provided a brief overview regarding the purpose of the foregoing proposed resolution. Following her request to be added as a co-sponsor of the foregoing proposed resolution, Commissioner Edmonson expressed her full support on this issue. Chairman Rolle requested the foregoing proposed resolution be amended to include a sixty-day (60) time limit. Concerning questions raised by Commissioner Jordan regarding RIF (Road Impact Fee) revenues, Ms. Ester Calas, Director, Public Works Department, stated she would meet with the commissioner later to provide her with a detailed explanation regarding the process for allocating RIF dollars in advance from District 2; whether or not future projects would be affected; and if so, how would the funding be shifted. There being no further discussion regarding the foregoing proposed resolution, the committee proceeded to vote. | ||||||

TITLE RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE COUNTY MANAGER TO EXAMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF INSTALLING CYLINDRICAL POSTS BETWEEN BUS PASSENGER BENCHES OR SHELTERS AND THE EDGE OF THE ROAD AT MIAMI-DADE TRANSIT BUS STOPS IN UNINCORPORATED MIAMI-DADE COUNTY BODY WHEREAS, there have been numerous accidents involving transit patrons waiting at Miami-Dade County bus stops; and WHEREAS, the placement of cylindrical posts between bus passenger benches or shelters and the edge of the road may serve to prevent accidents and thus save lives, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board hereby directs the County Manager to prepare a report to determine the feasibility of installing cylindrical posts between bus passenger benches or shelters and the edge of the road. This report shall be presented to the Transit Committee within 60 days of the effective date of this Resolution and will include: total estimated cost, a time schedule for possible implementation, engineering or planning concerns, implications with the ADA, and potential safety benefits and risks. |
