REPORT: Commissioner Diaz provided a brief explanation of the foregoing proposed resolution. Mr. Lester Sola, Supervisor of Elections, Miami-Dade Elections Department, expressed appreciation to the Board for considering the foregoing resolution. He stated that Ms. Acosta-Thatcher was a special person who had a great passion for her work at the Elections Department.

TITLE
RESOLUTION RENAMING THE MIAMI-DADE ELECTIONS DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS THE "ALICIA ACOSTA-THATCHER MIAMI-DADE ELECTIONS DEPARTMENT BUILDING"

BODY
WHEREAS, Alicia Acosta-Thatcher began her 32 year career with the Miami-Dade Elections Department in 1973; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Acosta-Thatcher realized increasing levels of responsibility and harnessed an encyclopedic knowledge of elections laws and procedures; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Acosta-Thatcher eagerly and enthusiastically used her wisdom and knowledge to inform, guide and direct subordinates, colleagues, county and municipal administrators and officials; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Acosta-Thatcher's positive spirit and dedication to Miami-Dade County's electoral process did not wane despite diminishing health; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Acosta-Thatcher exemplified tireless, selfless, and uncompromising commitment to public services and the deliverance of excellence; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Acosta-Thatcher, the woman, the friend, the confidant, the advisor, the mentor, the administrator, and the employee, has profoundly and indelibly touched the hearts and lives of countless Miami-Dade citizens; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Acosta-Thatcher passed on November 10, 2005 after a long battle with renal complications; and
WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County owns and operates the Miami-Dade Elections Department Headquarters; and
WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade Elections Department Headquarters is located in Commission District 12,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board finds that Alicia Acosta-Thatcher has made a direct, significant lifetime contribution to this community and approves the renaming of the Miami-Dade Elections Department Headquarters as the "Alicia Acosta-Thatcher Miami-Dade Elections Department Building."
