TITLE RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE NEW YORK GIANTS FOR THEIR VICTORY OVER THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS IN SUPER BOWL XLII WHICH PRESERVED THE 1972 DOLPHINS STILL-UNMATCHED ACHIEVEMENT; AND TAKING THIS OCCASION TO HONOR THE 1972 MIAMI DOLPHINS FOR THEIR PERFECT SEASON BODY WHEREAS, no other National Football League team had ever achieved a perfect season before the 1972 Dolphins, and no team has achieved a perfect season since; and WHEREAS, a powerful New England Patriots team entered Super Bowl XLII Sunday with an 18-0 record, threatening to match the 1972 Dolphins� perfect season; and WHEREAS, going into Super Bowl XLII, the New York Giants were significant underdogs with an 0-2 season start and 6 regular season losses; and WHEREAS, few predicted the Giants could upset the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII; and WHEREAS, despite the odds and predictions, the Giants won Super Bowl XLII by a score of 17-14; and WHEREAS, the Giants� victory over the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII preserved the 1972 Dolphins� unique status as the only unbeaten team in NFL history; and WHEREAS, the Giants� victory highlights how hard it is to achieve perfection in the NFL and makes the 1972 Dolphins� perfect season all the more significant; and WHEREAS, the people of Miami-Dade County wish to congratulate and thank the New York Giants for their victory over the New England Patriots, which in turn preserved the 1972 Miami Dolphins� unique place in history; and WHEREAS, in conjunction with this resolution, Commissioner Martinez also will be requesting a proclamation for this Board to congratulate and thank the New York Giants for their upset win in Super Bowl XLII that preserved the 1972 Dolphins� unique status as the only unbeaten team in NFL history and to take this occasion to honor the 1972 Miami Dolphins for their still-unmatched achievement; and WHEREAS, in light of the Giants� win over the Patriots, this community is all the more proud of the 1972 Dolphins and their unmatched achievement of a perfect season, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board: Section 1. On behalf of the people of Miami-Dade County, thanks and congratulates the New York Giants for their victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, which preserved the 1972 Miami Dolphins unique status as the only undefeated team in NFL history. Section 2. On behalf of the people of Miami-Dade County, takes the opportunity to again honor the 1972 Miami Dolphins for their achievement of a perfect 17-0 season, with Super Bowl XLII serving to highlight the significance of the 1972 Miami Dolphins� still-unmatched achievement. Section 3. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to each current member of the New York Giants team and coaching staff. Section 4.
