REPORT: Commissioner Diaz explained the intent of the foregoing proposed resolution. Mr. Fred Arbello, 344 Wine Road Northwest, Lake Placid, Florida, Commander to the Military Order of the Purple Heart of the United States of America, Chapter 601, Highland County, along with Abbey Marsh, Senior Vice Commander, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 601, appeared before the Board, urged the Board to support this proposed resolution urging the Florida Legislature to designate U.S. Highway 27 in Miami-Dade County as part of the National Purple Heart Highway. Hearing no further comments, the Board proceeded to vote on the foregoing proposed resolution as presented.

TITLE
RESOLUTION URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO DESIGNATE THAT PORTION OF U.S. HIGHWAY 27 IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY AS A PART OF THE NATIONAL PURPLE HEART TRAIL; AND APPROVING SUCH DESIGNATION

BODY
WHEREAS, since then approximately 1,635,000 Purple Heart medals have been awarded to our military personnel; and
WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners appreciates the members of the Armed Forces who have been awarded the Purple Heart, and further recognizes that many have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our country free; and
WHEREAS, the Military Order of the Purple Heart of the U.S.A. is coordinating a national effort to establish the Purple Heart Trail consisting of major interstate highways and roadways leading to patriotic sites; and
WHEREAS, our local community, our state, and our nation owe a deep debt of gratitude to those members of our Armed Forces who have been wounded in combat and honored with the Purple Heart Medal,





NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Urges the Florida Legislature to designate that portion of U.S. Highway 27 located in Miami-Dade County as part of the National Purple Heart Trail.
Section 2. Approves the designation of U.S. Highway 27 in Miami-Dade County as part of the National Purple Heart Trail.
Section 3. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the Governor, Senate President, House Speaker, Chair and Members of the Miami-Dade County State Legislative Delegation.
Section 4. Directs the County's state lobbyists to advocate for the legislation set forth in Section 1 above, and directs the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs to include this item in the 2008 State Legislative Package.
The foregoing resolution was sponsored by Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz and offered by Commissioner , who moved its adoption. The motion was seconded by Commissioner and upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows:
