REPORT: First Assistant County Attorney Abigail Price-Williams read the foregoing proposed resolution into the record. Commissioner Edmonson noted a scrivener’s error existed in this proposed resolution and should be corrected to change “Miami-Dade” to “Miami” in the fifth WHEREAS clause on handwritten page three. Hearing no other questions or comments, the Commission proceeded to vote.

TITLE
RESOLUTION APPROVING CO DESIGNATION OF NW 24TH AVENUE FROM NW 46TH STREET TO NW 50TH STREET AS CECELIA SHEFFIELD DUNN AVENUE

BODY
WHEREAS, this Board has conducted a public hearing to consider codesignating NW 24th Avenue from NW 46th Street to NW 50th Street as Cecelia Sheffield Dunn Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the late Cecelia Sheffield Dunn received her B.A. degree in Music from Bethune Cookman College, now University in 1962; and
WHEREAS, Cecelia Sheffield Dunn served as a music teacher at Brownsville Middle School for a precedent 33 years and was honored by being "Teacher of the Year" three times, a region finalist, department chair and special assistant to several of the principals during her tenure; and
WHEREAS, Cecelia Sheffield Dunn received her Master's degree in Music from the University of Miami. After retirement in 1996, she served as an adjunct professor at Florida Memorial University for more than a decade; and
WHEREAS, her religious, social and civic involvement is just as impressive. In 1970, she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Miami Alumnae Chapter, where she served as musician for the Deltaires and even served as vice-president of the sorority. She also played the Greek Medley with Dr. Richard Strachan for the Panhellenic Council on many occasions. Since 1977, she worked untiringly as a member of The Miami Chapter of Links, Inc. serving as a past president, chairperson of the Arts Facet and Musician. The local chapter of AARP adored her for being their musician and conductor of their choir. She was a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and Bethune-Cookman University Alumni Association; and
WHEREAS, Cecelia Sheffield Dunn always put God first in her life. She assisted in organizing the New Covenant Presbyterian Church 41 years ago, where she served as an Elder, Minister of Music, member of Wednesday Bible Study, Presbyterian Church Women United and the recording secretary for the National Black Presbyterian Caucus; and
WHEREAS, Cecelia Sheffield Dunn was married to the late Richard Paul Dunn; and
WHEREAS, this Board would like to honor the memory of Cecelia Sheffield Dunn with this codesignation; and
WHEREAS, this proposed codesignation is located in County Commission District 3,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that:
Section 1. This Board approves the codesignation of NW 24th Avenue from NW 46th Street to NW 50th Street as Cecelia Sheffield Dunn Avenue.
Section 2. The Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works Department and Land Development Division of the Public Works Department, the Miami-Dade Police Department, and the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department.
