REPORT: | Commissioner Edmonson amended this proposed resolution to change the new name for the Performing Arts Center Metomover Station from “Arsht Performing Arts Center Metromover Station” to “Adrienne Arsht Performing Arts Center Metromover Station”. Ms. Adrienne Arsht appeared before the Commission and expressed appreciation to the Commission for approving the proposed renaming of this Metromover station. She spoke in support of the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County (PAC) and provided the Commission an update on PAC activities. Commissioner Sorenson noted she supported this proposed resolution notwithstanding Ms. Arsht was not deceased. Commissioner Moss noted he supported the current direction and atmosphere of the PAC. Hearing no other questions or comments, the Commission proceeded to vote. | ||||||

TITLE RESOLUTION RENAMING PERFORMING ARTS CENTER METROMOVER STATION AS THE ''ADRIENNE ARSHT PERFORMING ARTS METROMOVER STATION'' BODY WHEREAS, Miami-Dade Transit currently operates a Metromover station known as the Performing Arts Center Metromover Station; and WHEREAS, the Performing Arts Center of Greater Miami (�PAC�) is the home to four resident companies: Concert Association of Florida, Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet and the New World Symphony; and WHEREAS, the PAC is centrally located in the Arts, Media & Entertainment District; and WHEREAS, the Performing Arts Center Metromover Station is ideally situated to serve the transportation needs of residents and visitors who attend performances at the PAC; and WHEREAS, on January 10, 2008, national business leader and philanthropist, Adrienne Arsht, made a $30 million donation to the Performing Arts Center; and WHEREAS, in recognition of the gift, the former Carnival Center for the Performing Arts has been renamed the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County; and WHEREAS, funds from the Arsht gift donated in years two and three will add to working capital and will complete the funding of the Center�s $16 million dollar endowment giving the Center long-term financial security; and WHEREAS, the County Commission finds that it is in the best interest of the citizens of Miami-Dade County to rename the Performing Arts Center Metromover Station as the �Adrienne Arsht Performing Arts Metromover Station�, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: Section 1. This Board finds that Adrienne Arsht has made a direct, significant lifetime contribution to this community. Section 2. By three-fifths vote of the Board Members present, this Board approves the re-designation of the Performing Arts Center Metromover Station as the �Adrienne Arsht Performing Arts Metromover Station.� |
