RESOLUTION CO-DESIGNATING NW 107th AVENUE FROM NW 58th STREET TO NW 74th STREET AS �JOSE LUIS RODRIGUEZ �EL PUMA� AVENUE�; URGING THE CITY OF DORAL TO JOIN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY IN THIS CO-DESIGNATION

WHEREAS, Jose Luis Rodriguez, also known as �El Puma�, was born in Caracas, Venezuela, which is where he started his singing career with Billo�s Caracas Boys in the late 1960s; and
WHEREAS, while filming his first role in Puerto Rico, he received the nickname �El Puma� and since then has recorded more than 50 international hits and acted in more than 30�Spanish soap operas; and
WHEREAS, Jose Luis Rodriguez has participated in the Spanish versions of �Meet the Robinsons� and �Desperate Housewives� for the Hispanic market in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Jose Luis Rodriguez has two daughters from his first marriage, Liliana and Lilibeth, and currently is married to Carolina and they have a daughter, Genesis; and
WHEREAS, Jose Luis Rodriguez has been very involved with different charities and marathons, such as �Liga Contra el Cancer�, �Liga contra la Poliomielitis�, �Amigos Together for Kids�, �St. Jude Children�s Hospital� as well as activities sponsored by the Venezuelan Chamber of Commerce and the Venezuelan Business Club; and
WHEREAS, in the international arena, Jose Luis Rodriguez has been involved with the �Grupo de Rio� in Brazil, for the development of Latin American countries, �La Firma de la Paz� to end the war in San Salvador and the humanitarian relief of food and medicines for the �Estado de Vargas� in Venezuela; and
WHEREAS, this proposed codesignation is located in County Commission District 12,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Finds that Jose Luis Rodriguez �El Puma� has made a direct, significant lifetime contribution to this community.
Section 2. By three-fifths vote of the Board members present, approves the codesignation of N.W. 107th Avenue from N.W. 58th Street to N.W. 74th Street as �Jose Luis Rodriguez �El Puma� Avenue�.
Section 3. Urges the City of Doral to join Miami-Dade County with this codesignation.
Section 4. Directs the Clerk of the Board is to send certified copies of this Resolution to the City Manager of the City of Doral, the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works Department and Land Development Division of the Public Works Department, the Miami-Dade Police Department, and the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department.
