TITLE
RESOLUTION JOINING THE CITY OF NORTH MIAMI BEACH IN APPROVING THE DESIGNATION OF SOUTH GLADES DRIVE BETWEEN N.E. 16TH AVENUE AND N.E. 19TH AVENUE AS "DETECTIVE JAMES WALKER JR. DRIVE"

BODY
WHEREAS, on January 8, 2008, City of Miami Police Detective James Walker Jr., an eight (8) year veteran of the City of Miami Police Department, was shot and killed while attempting to protect and defend the victim of an apparent felony shooting in the City of North Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, although Detective Walker was off-duty at the time, he did not hesitate to enforce the law he was sworn to uphold; and
WHEREAS, Detective Walker will be missed by his wife and parents, along with the hundreds of police officers in our community that learned to respect him in his years of service to our community; and
WHEREAS, on September 9, 2008, the City Council of the City of North Miami Beach adopted Resolution No. R2008-34, which designated South Glades Drive between N.E. 16th Avenue and N.E. 19th Avenue as "Detective James Walker Jr. Drive", a copy of which is attached and incorporated by reference; and
WHEREAS, this road designation is located in County Commission District 4,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Joins the City of North Miami Beach in approving the designation of South Glades Drive between N.E. 16th Avenue and N.E. 19th Avenue as "Detective James Walker Jr. Drive."
Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the Mayor, City Council and City Manager of the City of North Miami Beach, the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works Department and Land Development Division of the Public Works Department, the Miami-Dade Police Department, and the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department.
