REPORT: | Assistant County Attorney Jess McCarty read the foregoing proposed resolution into the record. Commissioner Souto asked that he be listed as a co-sponsor. Hearing no other questions or comments, the Committee proceeded to vote. Chairman Martinez asked staff to prepare the appropriate memorandum to the Board of County Commissioners' Chairman Bruno A. Barreiro requesting that the Board's Rules and Procedures be waived to allow the foregoing proposed resolution to be heard at the December 16, 2008 County Commission meeting. | ||||||

TITLE RESOLUTION URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE AND THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR ILLUMINATED STREET SIGNS ON STATE ROADS IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY BODY WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County currently is retrofitting existing traffic signals with illuminated street name signs throughout the County, including state roads; and WHEREAS, within the last year or so, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has included installation of illuminated street signs as part of current state road improvement projects; and WHEREAS, FDOT has indicated that it does not have funding to retrofit state roads in Miami-Dade where improvement projects are not currently taking place or being planned; and WHEREAS, installation of illuminated street signs on state roads throughout Miami Dade County could not only improve traffic safety, but also assist tourists as they travel in Miami Dade County, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board: Section 1. Urges the Florida Legislature and the Florida Department of Transportation to provide funding for illuminated street signs on state roads throughout Miami Dade County. Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the Governor, the Senate President, the House Speaker, the Chair and Members of the Miami-Dade County State Legislative Delegation, and the Secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation. Section 3. Directs the County�s state lobbyists to advocate for the passage of the legislation set forth in Section 1 above, and directs the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs to include this item in the 2009 State Legislative Package. |
