REPORT: | First Assistant County Attorney Abigail Price-Williams read the foregoing proposed resolution into the record. Chairman Moss opened the public hearing. Hearing no one wishing to speak before the Board, Chairman Moss closed the public hearing. Commissioner Martinez stated the County Mayor intended to submit a Mayoral Veto Waiver for this resolution to the Clerk of the Board’s Office. Chairman Moss and Commissioners Diaz, Jordan, Gimenez, Heyman, Rolle, Edmonson and Barreiro asked to be listed as cosponsors on this resolution. | ||||||

TITLE RESOLUTION CODESIGNATING S.W. 80th STREET BETWEEN S.W. 147th AVENUE AND S.W. 152nd AVENUE AS ��ASHLEY VALDES STREET�� BODY WHEREAS, Ashley Nicole Valdes was born March 4, 1997; and WHEREAS, on January 8, 2009, while Ashley was on her way home from an after-school program, her life was tragically taken in a hit-and-run accident on S.W. 80th Street near S.W. 149th Avenue; and WHEREAS, though only 11 years old at her untimely death, Ashley already had touched the lives around her in a meaningful way, including her family, friends and those with which she came in contact; and WHEREAS, Ashley was her mother Adonay Rosete�s best friend and a tireless helper while her mother studied to be a paramedic in the single-parent home; and WHEREAS, when not in school, Ashley spent substantial amounts of time taking care of her mentally disabled younger sister, Amanda, helping to dress her sister and sometimes getting up in the middle of the night to take care of her sister so that her mother could sleep; and WHEREAS, Ashley was also a very spiritual child; and WHEREAS, Ashley took a great interest in animals and was always very involved in school activities; and WHEREAS, this Board would like to honor the memory of Ashley Valdes by codesignating the location of her tragic and untimely death, S.W. 80th Street between S.W. 147th Avenue and S.W. 152nd Avenue, as �Ashley Valdes Street�; and WHEREAS, S.W. 80th Street between S.W. 147th Avenue and S.W. 152nd Avenue is a County road located in unincorporated Miami-Dade County; and WHEREAS, this proposed codesignation is located in County Commission District 11, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board: Section 1. Codesignates S.W. 80th Street between S.W. 147th Avenue and S.W. 152nd Avenue as ��Ashley Valdes Street.�� Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works Department and Land Development Division of the Public Works Department, the Miami-Dade Police Department, and the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department. |
