TITLE RESOLUTION URGING CONGRESS AND THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE TO LOCATE THE U.S. AFRICA COMMAND (AFRICOM) AT HOMESTEAD AIR RESERVE BASE OR SOME OTHER SUITABLE SITE IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY BODY WHEREAS, on April 7, 2009, this Board passed Resolution No. 378-09, a copy of which is attached and incorporated by reference, directing the Mayor or Designee to work with the Foundation For Democracy In Africa (FDA), Beacon Council, Defense Alliance, Homestead Air Reserve Base, SOUTHCOM, and other applicable entities to bring AFRICOM to Homestead Air Reserve Base or some other suitable site in Miami-Dade County; and WHEREAS, lobbying efforts before the federal executive and legislative branches may assist in bringing AFRICOM to Homestead Air Reserve Base, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board: Section 1. Urges Congress and the U.S. Department of Defense to locate the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) at Homestead Air Reserve Base or some other suitable site in Miami-Dade County. Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the members of the Miami-Dade Congressional Delegation, the U.S. Secretary of Defense and the Commander of the U.S. Africa Command. Section 3. Directs the County's federal lobbyists to advocate for the legislation set forth in Section 1 above, and authorizes and directs that the 2009 and 2010 Federal Legislative Packages be amended to include this item. |
