TITLE RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE MAYOR OR MAYOR�S DESIGNEE TO EVALUATE THE FEASIBILITY OF CREATING AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM OF LECTURES AND SEMINARS ON THE TOPICS OF PROPER NUTRITION AND PREVENTIVE HEALTH CARE AND TO PROVIDE A REPORT THEREON BODY WHEREAS, pursuant to Article 1, Section 1.01A6, of the Miami-Dade County Charter, the Board of County Commissioners is empowered to �provide hospitals and uniform health and welfare programs� to the residents of Miami-Dade County; and WHEREAS, a health program that educates Miami-Dade County residents regarding proper nutrition and, additionally, that educates them concerning preventive health care (such as, but not limited to, the availability of immunizations, screenings and tests and other services) has the benefit of early detection of disease, illness and other potential health problems at a stage when the disease, illness or other health problems are preventable or more easily treatable; and WHEREAS, such an educational program in the format of lectures and seminars will have the benefit of decreasing long term health care costs associated with treating disease, illness and other health problems before they become chronic or more acute; and WHEREAS, this Board desires to establish such an educational program at public libraries in Miami-Dade County, through collaboration by and among the Office of Countywide Healthcare Planning, the Miami-Dade Public Library System and the Public Health Trust, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: Section 1. The Board of County Commissioners directs the Mayor or Mayor�s designee to explore the feasibility of creating an educational program in the format of lectures and seminars on the topics of proper nutrition and preventive health care, through a collaboration by and among the Office of Countywide Healthcare Planning, Miami-Dade Public Library System and the Public Health Trust. Section 2. At the next regularly scheduled Health, Public Safety and Intergovernmental Committee meeting following the effective date of this Resolution, the Mayor or Mayor�s designee shall submit a report concerning the feasibility of creating an educational program of lectures and seminars on topics of proper nutrition and preventive health care. |
