TITLE
RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE COUNTY MAYOR OR DESIGNEE TO WRAP TWO MIAMI-DADE COUNTY FIRE RESCUE VEHICLES AND ONE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY POLICE VEHICLE IN PINK DURING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER IN SUPPORT OF BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH AND AUTHORIZING THE METRO-DADE FIREFIGHTERS, IAFF LOCAL 1403, AND THE POLICE OFFICER ASSISTANCE TRUST TO PAY FOR THE WRAPPING

BODY
WHEREAS, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its causes, prevention and cure; and
WHEREAS, in 1991, the Susan G. Komen Foundation handed out pink ribbons to participants in its New York City race for breast cancer survivors; and
WHEREAS, the color pink has become associated with Breast Cancer Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS, more than a dozen world-famous landmarks have been illuminated in pink light during the month of October to draw attention to the importance of early diagnosis of breast cancer as well research for finding ways to cure and prevent breast cancer; and
WHEREAS, the Commission believes that two Miami-Dade County fire rescue vehicles and one police vehicle should be wrapped in pink during the month of October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Pink Heals Tour Event,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that County Mayor or designee is directed to wrap two Miami-Dade County fire rescue vehicles and one police vehicle in pink during the month of October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Pink Heals Tour Event. The cost for wrapping the two Miami-Dade County fire rescue vehicles in pink shall be paid for by the Metro-Dade Firefighters, IAFF Local 1403, and the cost of wrapping the Miami-Dade County police vehicle in pink shall be paid for by the Police Officer Assistance Trust.
