Ms. Jennifer Glazer-Moon explained the process for donations made and collected by a commissioner. TITLE RESOLUTION RETROACTIVELY WAIVING REQUIREMENTS OF ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER 3-38 FOR SECURING SPONSORSHIPS AND PURCHASING GOODS AND SERVICES FOR HOSTING THE 8TH ANNUAL SENIOR HOLIDAY LUNCHEON ON DECEMBER 8, 2010 BODY WHEREAS, Administrative Order 3-38 was established pursuant to Section 2-8.1 of the Code of Miami-Dade County to establish processes and procedures for County procurements; and WHEREAS, the 8th Annual Senior Holiday Luncheon (�Senior Luncheon�), hosted by the Office of County Commissioner Jose �Pepe� Diaz, District 12, was held on December 8, 2010 at the Doubletree Hotel and is an important Miami-Dade County event; and WHEREAS, more than 800 senior citizens attended the Senior Luncheon, where they were provided with lunch, music, and entertainment that included visits by famous Latin soap opera actors and musicians; and WHEREAS, most of these senior citizens live on small fixed incomes, many have little to no family members visiting them, and all look forward to this annual County event as the one time a year when they are recognized and celebrated; and WHEREAS, the Office of County Commissioner Jose �Pepe� Diaz, District 12, secured sponsorships in the form of cash donations from various corporations, including not-for-profit corporations, to assist in defraying the costs of hosting this County event; and WHEREAS, the Office of County Commissioner Jose �Pepe� Diaz, District 12, used the sponsorship funds to purchase good and services for the Senior Luncheon; and WHEREAS, the acquisition of sponsorships and the purchase of goods and services to host the Senior Luncheon are below the threshold amount requiring formal sealed bids set forth Section 2-8.1 of the Code of Miami-Dade County, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board retroactively waives the requirements of administrative orders, including Administrative Order 3-38, and any and all applicable Miami-Dade County Department of Procurement Guidelines for obtaining sponsorships and purchasing goods and services to host the Senior Luncheon on December 8, 2010 >>and approves the purchases previously made<<. |
