TITLE RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE COUNTY MAYOR OR MAYOR'S DESIGNEE TO PROVIDE UP TO EIGHTY (80) TRANSIT PASSES PER MONTH FOR THE MONTHS OF FEBRUARY THROUGH MAY, 2011 AND TO PROVIDE UP TO 125 TRANSIT PASSES PER MONTH FOR THE MONTHS OF AUGUST, 2011 THROUGH MAY, 2012 TO CITY YEAR TO BE DISTRIBUTED TO ITS VOLUNTEERS SERVING WITHIN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY IN EXCHANGE FOR NO LESS THAN 2,478 HOURS OF VOLUNTEER SERVICES IN FURTHERANCE OF BEAUTIFICATION OR OTHER RELATED SERVICES AT OR NEAR TRANSIT FACILITIES BODY WHEREAS, City Year was founded in 1988 on the belief that young people can change the world; and WHEREAS, City Year seeks to help children succeed, build stronger communities, break down social barriers, develop young leaders, and foster active citizenship; and WHEREAS, City Year unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service; and WHEREAS, City Year volunteers, as tutors, mentors, and role models, are already making a difference in the lives of children, and transforming schools and neighborhoods in more than 19 U.S. locations, plus Johannesburg, South Africa and London, England; and WHEREAS, providing transit service to City Year to be distributed to its dedicated corps members will greatly assist in the ability of these young leaders to better serve the children of Miami-Dade County; and WHEREAS, City Year has agreed to provide at least 2,478 volunteer hours for landscaping, litter removal, general clean-up, and other transit related services as �sweat equity� towards the cost of providing transit passes to its volunteers, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board directs the County Mayor or Mayor's designee to provide up to eighty (80) transit passes per month for the months of February through May, 2011 and to provide up to 125 transit passes per month for the months of August, 2011 through May, 2012 free of charge to City Year to be distributed to its corps members serving within Miami-Dade County in exchange for no less than 2,478 hours of volunteer services in furtherance of beautification or other related services at or near transit facilities and placement of Miami-Dade Transit logos on City Year materials, including jackets, vests, and flyers. |
