TITLE
RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF MIAMI CO-DESIGNATION OF NW 23RD STREET FROM NW 10TH AVENUE TO NW 14TH AVENUE AS �MARIANO VAZQUEZ WAY�

BODY
WHEREAS, on October 14, 2010, the Miami City Commission adopted Resolution No. 10 0454, which designated NW 23rd Street from NW 10th Avenue to NW 14th Avenue as �Mariano Vazquez Way�, a copy of which is attached and incorporated by reference; and
WHEREAS, Mariano Vazquez was born in Cuba and as a young man began learning about the meat business and being a butcher; and
WHEREAS, Vazquez moved to New York in the early 1950s and started working as a butcher; and
WHEREAS, it was during this time that Vazquez was drafted and served two years in the U. S. Army; and
WHEREAS, Vazquez took the biggest challenge in his life in 1964, opening a ham processing plant in Miami that later expanded into a major USDA-approved plant; and
WHEREAS, Vazquez later opened a similar processing plant in Puerto Rico; and
WHEREAS, Mariano Vazquez passed away January 8, 2010 after a long battle with a chronic illness; and
WHEREAS, NW 23rd Street from NW 10th Avenue to NW 14th Avenue is a city street located in the City of Miami; and

WHEREAS, the City of Miami wants the County to install signage indicating this co-designation on County street signs and traffic signal masts arms; and
WHEREAS, this co-designation is located in County Commission District 3,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Approves the City of Miami co-designation of NW 23rd Street from NW 10th Avenue to NW 14th Avenue as �Mariano Vazquez Way.�
Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to send certified copies of this Resolution to the City Manager of the City of Miami, the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works Department and Land Development Division of the Public Works Department, the City of Miami Police Department, and the City of Miami Fire Rescue Department.
