RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF HIALEAH CODESIGNATION OF WEST 23 STREET FROM WEST 6 COURT TO WEST 7 COURT AS �MARSHALL WAY�

BODY
WHEREAS, on April 12, 2011, the Hialeah City Council adopted Resolution No. 11-28, which designated West 23 Street from West 6 Court to West 7 Court as �Marshall Way,� in recognition of Steve Marshall�s contributions to the City of Hialeah, a copy of which is attached and incorporated by reference; and
WHEREAS, Steve Marshall was born on August 23, 1925 to Ben Marshall and Rebecca William-Marshall, the first African-American family to settle and work in the Hialeah community of Seminola; and
WHEREAS, Steve Marshall worked for the Hialeah Racetrack, the Hialeah Police Department and as a private security guard and tirelessly worked for the betterment of his community; and
WHEREAS, Steve Marshall is one of seven chartered committee members of the Historical Development Committee of Seminola, founded in 2007; and
WHEREAS, West 23 Street from West 6 Court to West 7 Court is a city street located in the City of Hialeah; and
WHEREAS, the City of Hialeah wants the County to install signage indicating this codesignation on County street signs and traffic signal masts arms; and
WHEREAS, this codesignation is located in County Commission District 13,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Approves the City of Hialeah codesignation of West 23 Street from West 6 Court to West 7 Court as �Marshall Way.�
Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to send certified copies of this Resolution to the Mayor of the City of Hialeah, the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Miami-Dade County Public Works Department, the Land Development Division of the Public Works Department, the Hialeah Police Department and the Hialeah Fire Department.
