TITLE
RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF MIAMI CODESIGNATION OF NW 29TH STREET FROM NW 5TH AVENUE TO NW 7TH AVENUE AS �LAGUNA WAY�

BODY
WHEREAS, on June 23, 2011, the City of Miami Commission adopted Resolution R11-0260, which codesignated NW 29th Street from NW 5th Avenue to NW 7th Avenue as �Laguna Way,� in recognition of Floriberto Laguna�s contributions over 30 years to the Miami community, a copy of which is attached and incorporated by reference; and
WHEREAS, Floriberto Laguna arrived in the U.S. in 1972 after being a political prisoner in Cuba, and from that time on he never stopped helping the community; and
WHEREAS, early in his career, Laguna worked in the construction industry, owning a local hardware store and cement company; and
WHEREAS, as a business leader, Laguna strived to build affordable housing in Allapattah and invested in the growth of the Allapattah neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Laguna also was a passionate chef and owned Laguna Seafood Restaurant; and
WHEREAS, Laguna was known for cooking and feeding over 500 of Miami�s needy people every Thanksgiving and Christmas; and
WHEREAS, Floriberto Laguna passed away in 2010, but his legacy lives on in the City of Miami; and
WHEREAS, NW 29th Street from NW 5th Avenue to NW 7th Avenue is a city street located in the City of Miami; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami wants the County to install signage indicating this co-designation on County street signs and traffic signal masts arms; and
WHEREAS, this codesignation is located in County Commission District 3,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Approves the City of Miami codesignation of NW 29th Street from NW 5th Avenue to NW 7th Avenue as �Laguna Way.�
Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to send certified copies of this Resolution to the City Manager of the City of Miami, the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works Department, the Land Development Division of the Public Works Department, the City of Miami Police Department and the City of Miami Fire Rescue Department.
