TITLE
RESOLUTION INVOKING WAIVER PROVIDED BY SECTION 2-11.2.1(c) FOR DISPOSITION OF SURPLUS PROPERTY TO THE GOVERNMENT OF HAITI AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR OR MAYOR’S DESIGNEE TO DONATE SURPLUS TRASH/GARBAGE COLLECTION PROPERTY

BODY

WHEREAS, the country of Haiti has a continuing and ongoing problem with the accumulation of garbage and trash; and
WHEREAS, the collection of garbage and trash is a problem that faces the government of Haiti due to a shortage of available equipment; and
WHEREAS, the appropriate collection of garbage and trash significantly effects the population of any country; and
WHEREAS, the County’s Public Works and Waste Management Department has surplus property which meets the requirements of Section 2-11.2.1 for disposition; and
WHEREAS, donation of that property and equipment to Haiti will aid and assist in the improvement of conditions for the people of Haiti’; and
WHEREAS, this Board in Resolution R-1240-08 declared an emergency situation in Haiti which still exists today; and
WHEREAS, in 2010 Haiti experienced a devastating earthquake causing loss of life and damage to property causing yet further emergency conditions,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Mayor or Mayor’s designee shall identify through the Public Works and Waste Management Department surplus property not to exceed two automated trucks and 12,000 blue carts, with the associated parts to repair those carts, which property meets the description of surplus property set forth in Section 2 11.2.1, and shall provide that property to the Haitian government’s sanitation department (SMCRS).
