TITLE
RESOLUTION URGING THE STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS TO EDUCATE AND TRAIN ITS OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES TO NOT, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, STEER SEX OFFENDERS TO THE CORNER OF NORTHEAST SEVENTY-NINTH (79TH) STREET AND TENTH (10TH) AVENUE

BODY
WHEREAS, as many as two dozen homeless sex offenders are setting up camp nightly at the corner of northeast 79th street and 10th avenue; and
WHEREAS, the State of Florida Department of Corrections is aware of the camp; and
WHEREAS, many of the sex offenders have stated that it is their probation officers who have directed them to this camp to live; and
WHEREAS, the presence of this camp has created a situation that is unsanitary, unsightly, and unkempt; and
WHEREAS, the existence of this camp poses a danger to the health, safety, and welfare of those that live and work in the immediate area, including children,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Urges the State of Florida Department of Corrections to educate and train its officers and employees to not, directly or indirectly, steer sex offenders to the corner of northeast 79th Street and 10th Avenue.
Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the Secretary of Florida Department of Corrections.
