TITLE
RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF MIAMI CODESIGNATION OF NE 27TH STREET FROM BISCAYNE BAY TO BISCAYNE BOULEVARD AS �MOST REVEREND FATHER ARMANDO LLORENTE WAY�

BODY
WHEREAS, on July 26, 2012, the Miami City Commission adopted Resolution No. R12-0262 which designated NE 27th Street from Biscayne Bay to Biscayne Boulevard as �Most Reverend Father Armando Llorente Way�, in recognition of his contributions to the City of Miami, a copy of which is attached and incorporated by reference; and
WHEREAS, Father Llorente was born in Spain, the youngest of nine children; and
WHEREAS, following in the footsteps of his oldest brother, Father Llorente joined the Jesuit order as a priest; and
WHEREAS, after being ordained as a priest in 1948, he was sent to Havana, Cuba to become the Principal of Belen School, but at that time, a director for a new retreat house was needed and he went to fill the post; and
WHEREAS, his friendship with Father Felipe Rey de Castro, a distinguished Jesuit who had founded a sodality of university students and professional men called Agrupaci�n Cat�lica Universitaria, next took him into what would be the most important commitment in his life; and
WHEREAS, when Father Rey passed away in 1952, Father Llorente was chosen to become the new director of Agrupaci�n Cat�lica Universitaria, a post he kept for the next 58 years; and
WHEREAS, Father Llorente greatest achievement was to relocate the Agrupaci�n Cat�lica Universitaria from Cuba to the United States; and
WHEREAS, Father Armando Llorente passed away on April 28, 2012; and
WHEREAS, NE 27th Street�from Biscayne Bay to Biscayne Boulevard is a city street located in the City of Miami; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami wants the County to install signage indicating this codesignation on County street signs and traffic signal masts arms; and
WHEREAS, this codesignation is located in County Commission District 3,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Approves the City of Miami codesignation of NE 27th Street from Biscayne Bay to Biscayne Boulevard as �Most Reverend Father Armando Llorente Way�.
Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to send certified copies of this Resolution to the City Manager of the City of Miami, the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works and Waste Management Department, the Development Services Division of the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources, the City of Miami Police Department, and the City of Miami Fire Rescue Department.
