REPORT: Vice Chairwoman Edmonson welcomed Mr. Kyle Abney, member, Florida Green Building Coalition Board, who was here to present the County with a Green Local Government Certificate that designated the County as a Florida Green Local Government. She noted the County earned a gold rating and achieved the highest score of any local government in the State of Florida. Vice Chairwoman Edmonson said County staff collaborated with the Miami-Dade County Public School staff to capture and report their green practices, allowing the County to obtain points assigned to school systems. She noted a School Board representative was present to accept the certificate. Chairwoman Edmonson congratulated the Office of Sustainability for leading the County in attaining this achievement. Mr. Abney noted the flag that he would be presenting was made from old sails from boats and the frame around the certificates was used from harvested old growth heart pine in North Florida from the bottom of the Suwannee River. A School Board representative congratulated the Office of Sustainability for its achievement and for the County’s achievement. She noted the School Board was happy to have participated in this application process, and looked forward to working with the County in the future on similar endeavors. Mr. Abney said the Florida Green Building Coalition was a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable building developments and business practices. He commented on the County’s green initiatives and its partnership with the School Board. Deputy Mayor/County Manager Alina Hudak commended the Sustainability team for its efforts, on behalf of Mayor Carlos Gimenez and the Administration. She commented on the partnerships that were developed, and the County’s Energy Master Plan. Ms. Hudak noted she looked forward to working with all of the participants. Vice Chairwoman Edmonson congratulated the Office of Sustainability for the work it had contributed to the County.
