RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF NORTH MIAMI CODESIGNATION OF NE 7TH AVENUE FROM NE 121st STREET TO NE 125TH STREET AS �NE 7 AVE. SGTS. BAUER, HODGE AND MERTES BLVD�

BODY
WHEREAS, on October 9, 2012 the Mayor and City Council of the City of North Miami adopted Resolution No. R-2012-122 which codesignated NE 7th Avenue from NE 121st Street to NE 125th Street as �NE 7 Ave. Sgts. Bauer, Hodge and Mertes Blvd.,� in recognition of their contributions to the City of North Miami, a copy of which is attached and incorporated by reference, and
WHEREAS, on November 5, 1980, Sergeant Carl W. Mertes was tragically killed while assisting another officer on a traffic stop; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Mertes was a ten year veteran of the City of North Miami Police Department and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant posthumously; and
WHEREAS, on January 3, 1992, Sergeant Steven E. Bauer was ambushed and killed at the Kislak Bank while working off-duty; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Bauer was a thirteen year veteran of the City of North Miami Police Department, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant posthumously; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Lynette A. Hodge was killed on November 16, 1993, while en route to aid a fellow officer; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Hodge was a member of the City of North Miami Police Department for six months until her untimely death, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant posthumously; and
WHEREAS, NE 7th Avenue from NE 121st Street to NE 125th Street is a city street located in the City of North Miami; and
WHEREAS, the City of North Miami requests the County to install signage indicating this codesignation on County street signs and traffic signal masts arms; and
WHEREAS, this codesignation is located in County Commission District 2,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Approves the City of North Miami codesignation of NE 7th Avenue from NE 121st Street to NE 125th Street as �NE 7 Ave. Sgts. Bauer, Hodge and Mertes Blvd.�
Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to send certified copies of this Resolution to the City Manager of the City of North Miami, the City of North Miami Police Department, the United States Postal Service, the Miami-Dade County Fire-Rescue Department, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works and Waste Management Department, and the Development Services Division of the Regulatory and Economic Resources Department.
