TITLE
RESOLUTION URGING THE PRESIDENT AND UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO FUND NEEDED REPAIRS TO COUNTY OWNED AND MAINTAINED BRIDGES; IDENTIFYING THIS ISSUE AS A CRITICAL COUNTY PRIORITY FOR THE 2013 SESSION

BODY
WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County maintains and operates approximately eight movable bridges (drawbridges) and approximately 195 vehicular or pedestrian bridges; and
WHEREAS, the County�s bridge infrastructure is aging and requires periodic repairs to be preformed to maintain these bridges for the benefit of the residents and visitors of Miami-Dade County; and
WHEREAS, during the State of the Union Address, the President proposed dedicating additional federal resources to repairing the nations aging bridge infrastructure stating: �I propose a �Fix-it-First� program to put people to work as soon as possible on our most urgent repairs, like the nearly 70,000 structurally deficient bridges across the country;� and
WHEREAS, the Board desires to identify all potential funding sources to accomplish bridge repairs in Miami-Dade County including, but not limited to, the utilization of federal funds for these to repair County bridges; and
WHEREAS, the Board desires that the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs seek and obtain federal funds for needed County bridge repairs,




NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Urges the President of the United States and the United States Congress to direct funding from the �Fix-it-First� program to Miami-Dade County for needed repairs to the County�s bridges.
Section 2. Identifies the issue set forth in Section 1 above as a critical County priority for the 2013 Federal Legislative Package.
Section 3. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the President of the United States and the members of the Florida Congressional Delegation.
Section 4. Directs the County's federal lobbyists to advocate for the funding identified above, and authorizes and directs the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs to amend the 2013 Federal Legislative Package to include this item as a critical County priority.
