TITLE
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE SOUTH FLORIDA SUPER BOWL HOST COMMITTEE’S BID TO HOST SUPER BOWL L IN 2016

BODY
WHEREAS, South Florida has an opportunity to host the 2016 Super Bowl; and
WHEREAS, South Florida recently hosted Super Bowls XXIX in 1995, XXXIII in 1999, XLI in 2007, and most recently XLIV in 2010; and
WHEREAS, the last Super Bowl was watched by an estimated 111.3 million viewers making it the most watched television show in U.S. history; and
WHEREAS, our community has a proven track record of successfully hosting the Super Bowl; and
WHEREAS, at least 130,000 people are expected to visit the host community during the two weeks of Super Bowl festivities; and
WHEREAS, it is anticipated that at least 1 billion viewers around the world will focus their eyes on our community if the event is held in South Florida; and
WHEREAS, hosting this momentous sporting event in our community provides a tremendous opportunity to boost our tourism industry and local economy; and
WHEREAS, a host community is expected to generate in excess of $400 million from the Super Bowl; and
WHEREAS, the Board has previously recognized the significance of hosting this event and has shown its commitment to the 1995, 1999, 2007 and 2020 games through grant funding and in-kind support of the game and its surrounding activities,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board supports the South Florida Super Bowl Committee’s bid to host Super Bowl L in 2016 and pledges Miami-Dade County’s assistance, subject to available resources, to implement yet another successful Super Bowl.
