TITLE RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OR DESIGNEE TO ASSIST MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN INCORPORATING ANIMAL CARE EDUCATION IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM BODY WHEREAS, this Board recognizes promoting responsible pet ownership and reducing animal overpopulation as important public policies; and WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department has prepared educational materials, including a video available online at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yzv0gXqoCkc&feature=youtu.be, to promote responsible pet ownership and educate children about animal care; and WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) is incorporating animal care education in the elementary school curriculum for third, fourth, and fifth grades; and WHEREAS, MDCPS has requested the Animal Services Department�s participation in developing and implementing its animal education curriculum; and WHEREAS, this Board supports the efforts of Miami-Dade County Public Schools to educate children about responsible pet ownership and animal care, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Mayor or designee is authorized to assist Miami-Dade County Public Schools in developing and implementing an animal care education program as part of the elementary school curriculum for the 2013-14 school year. |
