TITLE RESOLUTION SUPPORTING FLORIDA ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES PRESIDENT AND LEON COUNTY COMMISSIONER BRYAN DESLOGE FOR 2ND VICE PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES BODY WHEREAS, Florida is the fourth largest state in the nation representing more than 19�million people in 67 counties; and WHEREAS, the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) helps counties serve and represent Floridians by strengthening and preserving county home rule through advocacy, education and collaboration; and WHEREAS, Commissioner Bryan Desloge has served on the Leon County Board of County Commissioners for seven years representing the residents of Leon County, where the City of Tallahassee is located; and WHEREAS, Commissioner Desloge also currently serves as the President of FAC and previously served as President-Elect, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President and policy chairman of FAC; and WHEREAS, in addition to his roles with the Leon County Commission and FAC, Commissioner Desloge has served on the National Association of Counties (NACo) Board of Directors for two terms; and WHEREAS, NACo is the only national organization that represents county governments throughout the United States; and WHEREAS, founded in 1935, NACo provides essential services to the nation�s 3,069 counties and advances issues with a unified voice before the federal government, improves the public�s understanding of county government, assists counties in finding and sharing innovative solutions through education and research, and provides value-added services to save taxpayers and counties money; and WHEREAS, Commissioner Desloge is running for 2nd Vice president of NACo with an election to be held this summer at the annual NACo conference; and WHEREAS, each county with a commissioner in attendance at the NACo conference will have a weighted vote in the election based on population; and WHEREAS, as the seventh largest county in the nation, Miami-Dade County will have a significant role in determining the outcome of the election of NACo officers; and WHEREAS, FAC is encouraging every county in Florida to pass a resolution expressing its support the candidacy of Commissioner Desloge for 2nd Vice president of NACo, which will place him in the line of succession to be President of NACo; and WHEREAS, while this resolution is not binding on the commissioner designated to vote on behalf of Miami-Dade County, this Board would like to express its support for Commissioner Desloge to be 2nd Vice president of NACo, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board: Section 1. Supports Florida Association of Counties President and Leon County Commissioner Bryan Desloge for 2nd Vice President of the National Association of Counties. Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit certified copies of this resolution to the National Association of Counties and the Florida Association of Counties. |
