REPORT: | First Assistant County Attorney Geri Bonzon-Keenan read the foregoing proposed resolution into the record. Chairman Monestime opened the public hearing. There being no one wishing to appear before the Board, Chairman Monestime closed the public hearing. TITLE RESOLUTION CODESIGNATING THAT PORTION OF SW 26TH STREET/CORAL WAY AT ITS INTERSECTION WITH SW 137TH AVENUE AS �ISLAS CANARIAS WAY� BODY WHEREAS, Islas Canarias Restaurant is a family restaurant specializing in authentic Cuban and Spanish cuisine that was established in 1977 by Raul and Amelia Garcia and their two children Nancy and Santiago; and WHEREAS, during the restaurant�s humble beginnings, Raul and Amelia catered to the people of Miami, and many of their first customers have over the years become pillars of our community; and WHEREAS, today many of the restaurant�s patrons consist of the children of those same families for whom Raul and Amelia prepared special meals; and WHEREAS, Islas Canarias Restaurant strives to prepare the finest homemade dishes from the Garcia family�s original recipes, and offers a friendly and family-oriented atmosphere reminiscent of Raul and Amelia�s personal attention to their original customers; and WHEREAS, Islas Canarias Restaurant has been a culinary landmark in the Miami-Dade community for nearly 40 years; and WHEREAS, Islas Canarias Restaurant is located at 13695 SW 26th Street; and WHEREAS, in recognition of Islas Canarias Restaurant and its many years of serving the Miami-Dade community, this Board would like to codesignate that portion of SW 26th Street/Coral Way at its intersection with SW 137th Avenue as �Islas Canarias Way�; and WHEREAS, that portion of SW 26th Street/Coral Way at its intersection with SW 137th Avenue is a County-maintained road located in unincorporated Miami-Dade County; and WHEREAS, this proposed codesignation is located in County Commission District 11, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board: Section 1. Having considered this matter at a public hearing, codesignates that portion of SW 26th Street/Coral Way at its intersection with SW 137th Avenue as �Islas Canarias Way�. Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works, the Development Services Division of the Regulatory and Economic Resources Department, the Miami-Dade County Police Department, and the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department. |
