TITLE RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI CODESIGNATION OF THE PORTION OF S.W. 76TH STREET, BETWEEN S.W. 57TH AVENUE AND S.W. 60TH AVENUE, AS �JOSE BASULTO STREET� BODY WHEREAS, on October 17, 2017, the Mayor and Commission of the City of South Miami passed Resolution No. 201-17-15002, which codesignated the portion of S.W. 76th Street, between S.W. 57th Avenue and S.W. 60th Avenue, as "Jose Basulto Street" in honor of Jose Basulto; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 201-17-15002 is attached and incorporated by reference; and WHEREAS, Mr. Basulto has been a long-time resident of the City of South Miami; and WHEREAS, Mr. Basulto received his bachelor's degree from Florida International University and his Master's of Business Administration from Cornell University; and WHEREAS, Mr. Basulto is a member of several boards including Habitat for Humanity of Miami, South Florida Fishing Club, Pacific National Bank and the American Diabetes Association Community Leadership Board; and WHEREAS, Mr. Basulto has been a member of the South Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners, and was reappointed by Governor Rick Scott for a term ending June 30, 2021; and WHEREAS, Mr. Basulto has been a successful residential builder and has built several residences within the City of South Miami; and WHEREAS, in 1991 Mr. Basulto founded Brothers to the Rescue, a humanitarian organization that assists and rescues raft refugees emigrating from Cuba, literally saving thousands of lives of men, women and children that otherwise would have been lost in the Florida straight, and that "supports the efforts of the Cuban people to free themselves from dictatorship through the use of active nonviolence"; and WHEREAS, the City of South Miami would like the County to install signage indicating the codesignation on County street signs and traffic signal mast arms; and WHEREAS, this Board would like to approve the codesignation of the portion of S.W. 76th Street, between S.W. 57th Avenue and S.W. 60th Avenue, as "Jose Basulto Street"; and WHEREAS, the portion of S.W. 76th Street, between S.W. 57th Avenue and S.W. 60th Avenue, is located within the City of South Miami and within County Commission District 7; and WHEREAS, the portion of S.W. 76th Street, between S.W. 57th Avenue and S.W. 60th Avenue, is maintained by the City of South Miami, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board: Section 1. Approves the City of South Miami codesignation of the portion of S.W. 76th Street, between S.W. 57th Avenue and S.W. 60th Avenue, as "Jose Basulto Street". Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the Mayor and City Commission of the City of South Miami, the United States Postal Service, the Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue Department, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Miami-Dade County Transportation and Public Works Department, the Development Services Division of the Miami-Dade County Regulatory and Economic Resources Department, and the City of South Miami Police Department. |
